As featured in the Fall 2011 issue of Imaging Notes

…SOCET GXP v4.0, which BAE Systems plans to release in early 2012, will include automatic feature extraction. To increase efficiency and reduce manual entry for end users, the underlying algorithm will automatically compute the dimensional attributes of a 3D object, for about 20 attributes. This capability builds on the company’s 16 years of experience in developing photogrammetric algorithms for SOCET SET and SOCET GXP.

A lot of analysts work within a 30-60 minute window, although I’ve seen timeframes as short as 20 minutes. A lot of that time is spent getting current imagery into the workstation; once it’s there, they can quickly filter intel products, develop the GeoPDF and get it out to those who need it. We work with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, for example, whose analysts primarily identify and map out potential LZs for aircraft going into operations, looking for all structures, treelines, power poles, ground slope, etc.
