Film and digital airborne sensors are the primary data sources for many geospatial analysts, particularly in commercial and global markets where acquiring satellite imagery is often not feasible. BAE Systems developed a step-by-step wizard interface to simplify the frame import process, reducing the time required for image processing. Advanced image processing algorithms assist operators with change detection, image classification, identifying anomalies and tracking patterns of activity over time.

“The Frame-Advanced sensor model is used in the geospatial production process from frame import through image registration to creating finished products,” said Stewart Walker, director of product initiatives for the Geospatial eXploitation Products™ business. “Analysts can more efficiently and accurately create photogrammetric products, such as topographic map data and high-resolution digital surface and elevation models.”

The SOCET GXP v3.2 software release also adds automated tools for viewing and editing live video feeds, and efficient tools for converting terrain analysis results from raster to vector file format. Furthermore, hyperspectral and multispectral image processing is extended with the capacity to analyze additional bands of image data, which minimizes the dependency on specialized software packages. Using these tools, analysts can more precisely identify ground features such as distinguishing between camouflaged fatigues and trees.

SOCET GXP is a geospatial-intelligence software package that uses imagery from satellite and aerial sources to identify and analyze ground features quickly, allowing for rapid product creation. The software is used to document geographic attributes in images and live video feeds and establish patterns of activity over time, which broadens analytical expertise.

SOCET GXP v3.2 is available on Microsoft® Windows XP, Vista, 7 and Solaris™ 10 x 86 operating systems.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. 12 April 2010 —Geosemble Technologies®, Inc., and BAE Systems announced today that they have integrated their respective technologies to bring users greater utility and efficiency in geospatial decision making. The companies will demonstrate the technology at the 2010 BAE Systems GXP International User Conference and Professional Exchange in San Diego, April 19 – 22. Geosemble has created a text visualization plug-in that can be used with BAE Systems’ SOCET GXP® software.

SOCET GXP is a geospatial-intelligence tool that uses imagery from commercial, satellite, and tactical means to identify and analyze ground features. With SOCET GXP, users can automatically measure and store properties such as scale, elevation, latitude, and longitude in a series of images to expedite geospatial production, image analysis, and map creation. The data then can be used to perform before-and-after site comparisons, coordinate operational missions, assess navigation safety, and monitor changes over time.

Geosemble’s product is a geographic data visualization tool that automatically integrates various textual sources into aerial imagery. The system, known as GeoXray, allows users to click on buildings and locations and automatically see the events and activities associated with those locations. The GeoXray plug-in is targeted to enterprise customers and is currently being used by two U.S. federal government agencies and several municipalities.

When implementing GeoXray into SOCET GXP as a plug-in capability users gain the benefit of broad, contextual knowledge about geographic areas. The information can come from current, internet-based information sources as well as proprietary, internal data that an organization may have that relates to a geographic location.

Using the GeoXray plug-in with SOCET GXP offers greater interoperability among image analysts, geospatial production technicians, and decision-makers at all levels. The combined technology enables informed, geographic-based decisions earlier in the geospatial-intelligence lifecycle.

For more information or a demonstration of the integrated capability contact Geosemble Technologies, Inc.

BAE Systems has released the latest version of its geospatial intelligence software, providing upgrades that allow users to reduce dependency on multiple tools to record and analyze ground features.

SAN DIEGO — BAE Systems has released the latest version of its geospatial intelligence software, providing upgrades that allow users to reduce dependency on multiple tools to record and analyze ground features. The company’s SOCET GXP® v3.0 software combines image analysis and geospatial production tools into a single application for diverse uses — from finding beach landing sites for combat troops to helping land the Mars Rover.

SOCET GXP is a geospatial-intelligence (GEOINT) software package that uses imagery from commercial, satellite, and tactical sources to identify and analyze ground features faster and more efficiently. The software is used for infrastructure design and development, efficient management of natural resources, operational planning, and geospatial-intelligence reporting.
Operators can record measurements, analyze terrain, create 3-D models with realistic geographic context, and monitor changes over time.

“First responders and deployed forces generally have about 30 minutes to build detailed GEOINT products such as topographic image maps and target charts,” said Rob Stout, geospatial exploitation product manager for BAE Systems in San Diego. “Integrating image and geospatial analysis into one comprehensive system reduces equipment, training, operating, and
maintenance costs, making SOCET GXP extremely user-friendly.”

SOCET GXP v3.0 allows operators to automatically measure, annotate, catalog, and retrieve ground features in a series of images to expedite geospatial analysis. The software upgrade enables interoperability and collaboration among users and decision-makers at all levels and provides direct connectivity with other mapping software and databases to create, store, and
share data. The information can be used to build maps, develop transportation infrastructure, manage utilities and communications networks, coordinate operational missions, and designate troop maneuvers.

The software currently is used on the frontlines in Iraq and Afghanistan, and systems integrators working on National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency programs are using it to produce GEOINT products. The U.S. Army has procured SOCET GXP for Army-wide implementation into its Imagery Workstation baseline for operational units, establishing the software as its primary
GEOINT exploitation tool.

SOCET GXP v3.0 is available on Microsoft Windows and UNIX® Solaris™ 8, 9, and 10
operating systems.

A new version of BAE Systems' image analysis and mapping software enables analysts to evaluate and share intelligence data more effectively by integrating with Google Earth™, and the ESRI® geodatabase.

SAN DIEGO — A new version of BAE Systems’ image analysis and mapping software enables analysts to evaluate and share intelligence data more effectively by integrating with Google Earth™, and the ESRI® geodatabase.

SOCET GXP® v2.3 interacts with Google Earth in real time for quick, 3-D color visualization and gives geospatial context to objects of interest, resulting in enhanced intelligence for mission planning. With additional tools for detecting changes from one day to the next, analysts can anticipate conditions such as rough terrain or collapsed bridges and pinpoint operational routes more accurately.

It also provides a direct connection to the ESRI geodatabase, the Environmental Systems Research Institute’s common data storage and management framework. Connection with the database allows users to work with data over secure networks for accurate, timely analysis.

“Out in the field, where SOCET GXP is used to make quick decisions, efficiency and accuracy are crucial,” said Dan London, BAE Systems’ vice president for Geospatial eXploitation Products. “With the integration of Google Earth and ESRI database, SOCET GXP transforms data into usable intelligence.”

The SOCET GXP upgrade enables analysts to use familiar tools and universal file formats to edit, store, and retrieve information, avoiding time-consuming searches for hard-copy reports.

The application also supports the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s Spatially Enabled Exploitation initiative to standardize image data formats for optimal information sharing across global networks. The application produces image graphics — such as roads, buildings, and targets — using a ground coordinate system that records latitude, longitude, and elevation data, eliminating the need for manual registration.

SOCET GXP v2.3 is available on Microsoft® Windows and UNIX® Solaris™ 8, 9, and 10 operating systems and supports ground space graphics for a wide range of government and commercial sources.

BAE Systems has released its Next-Generation Automatic Terrain Extraction (NGATE) software for creating 3-D models from satellite or aerial imagery.

SAN DIEGO — BAE Systems has released its Next-Generation Automatic Terrain Extraction (NGATE) software for creating 3-D models from satellite or aerial imagery.

The 3-D terrain and surface models generated by NGATE can be used for geospatial simulations, mission rehearsals, situational awareness, and disaster relief and recovery.

NGATE uses a hybrid matching process to create precise elevation data for 3-D terrain and surface models. The software is particularly useful for mapping urban areas, large geographic landscapes, mountainous or rough terrain, and areas with little contrast, such as road surfaces on large-scale imagery and vast deserts.

“NGATE represents a significant advance in image processing automation,” said Dan London, vice president of sales and marketing for BAE Systems’ Geospatial eXploitation Products unit in San Diego. “NGATE produces highly accurate, near-LiDAR (light detection and ranging) quality models quickly and efficiently. The software can dramatically reduce labor hours and is highly accurate when compared to other automated algorithms.”

The new NGATE module is an optional, licensed software add-on component for BAE Systems’ SOCET SET® v5.4, and will be available in SOCET GXP® v3.0. These applications are used for image processing, targeting, geospatial analysis, high-resolution terrain extraction, and surface modeling.
