“We have many tools to make 3D measurements from imagery that can be applied to make 3D measurements from point cloud data,” says Zhang. “That is our legacy and our competitive advantage.”

Like raster and vector data many years ago, 3D clouds of billions of LiDAR points — which can be colored and very realistic — are an exciting new data type. However, they pose many software challenges, and software vendors are working hard to develop new software to manage, process, visualize, and extract features from point clouds.

As the Army consolidates legacy systems into the Distributed Common Ground System – Army (DCGS-A) enterprise, the program must meet wide-ranging requirements for imagery and geospatial analysis. BAE Systems is hosting a series of presentations July 12 &ndas; 14 in San Diego during the Esri International User Conference to introduce revolutionary technology for automated photogrammetry, data management and image analysis. With the addition of the Frame-Advanced sensor model, BAE Systems’ SOCET GXP extreme Analysis software achieves a new level of support for SOCET SET photogrammetric workflows, from frame imagery import to advanced product generation.

Members of the media are invited to see software demonstrations featuring SOCET GXP and GXP Xplorer, a new commercial product that offers an automated approach to data discovery and building a common data environment. GXP Xplorer Web technology allows cloud computing on intranet and Internet with support for mobile apps and streaming data to provide GEOINT on-demand from anywhere.

Product specialists will show how to discover, access and organize geospatial data in GXP Xplorer; use SOCET GXP® to view, exploit and disseminate the data; and republish intelligence products generated to GXP Xplorer.
