Replacement Sensor Model (RSM)

Replacement Sensor Model (RSM)

Benefits

  • Developed and tested over the last six years to eliminate limitations of previous replacement sensor models such as RPCs
  • RSM works for virtually any imaging sensor: Frame, electro-optical, SAR, airborne, spaceborne, etc.
  • RSM provides for equivalent extraction, accuracy prediction, mensuration, and triangulation (support data adjustment) capabilities relative to the original (rigorous) sensor model it replaces.
Example: it provides virtually identical multi-image targeting solutions, including reliable accuracy predictions.
  • RSM allows vendors to hide their proprietary sensor models while still providing an easy to use standard model.
  • RSM is being adopted as an NITF standard by the NITF Technical Board (NTB)
    • RSM image support data contained in Tagged Record Extensions (TREs)
    • Validation by the NITF Technical Board (NTB) and the JITC testing organization
    • Working to make RSM an international ISO standard
  • RSM reduces software costs by reducing the sensor models needed to be implemented and maintained within a software solution
Example: many software packages are now trying to maintain over 40 sensor models and their ever changing support metadata (image support data)
  • Increases operational readiness
    • Images corresponding to new/modified sensor (original sensor model) are immediately exploitable when using RSM.
  • RSM technology is published within the new Manual of Photogrammetry
  • RSM is already implemented in various U.S. government programs
