Glossary of terms

annotation

An annotation is a text or graphic object associated with an image or map used to label and describe material. (more)

AOI

Abbreviation for area of interest. (more)

API

Abbreviation for application programming interface. (more)

Auto-Pan Zone

Turn on the Auto-Pan Zone preference to pan an image automatically. (more)

chip

A user-defined sub-region of an image, defined either by spatial or spectral parameters. (more)

Abbreviation for digital terrain elevation data. (more)

DTM

Abbreviation for digital terrain model. (more)

FDB

Abbreviation for feature database, a database that contains information about vector features. (more)

feathering

When multiple images are mosaicked together, differences in the images can cause visible seams in the mosaic. (more)

feature attribute

A feature attribute is a characteristic of a feature that describes the feature through numbers, text strings, or enumerated types. (more)

feature extraction

Feature extraction is the process of creating graphics from image vector data, attributing features, and storing them in a feature database. (more)

GSD

Abbreviation for ground sample distance, the horizontal distance in ground space between the centers of two adjacent pixels in an image. (more)

HSI

Abbreviation for hyperspectral imagery, which consists of multiple spectral bands derived from the electromagnetic spectrum. (more)

Jobs are external programs that facilitate data processing outside of SOCET GXP (more)

LIDAR

Acronym for light detection and ranging. (more)

master image

The master image is the primary image in a Virtual Mosaic used to transform or warp images. (more)

mensuration

Mensuration uses the sensor model and terrain to record graphic measurements. Note that the graphic must be in ground space. (more)

mosaic

A mosaic is the end result of combining multiple smaller images into one larger, cohesive image. (more)

nadir

In aerial photography, nadir is the point on the ground vertically beneath the perspective center of the camera lens. (more)

orthophoto

An orthophoto is an image that has had all camera obliquity, terrain relief, and feature distortion removed. (more)

Panel Data Manager

The Panel Data Manager manages the display and layering of feature data, terrain data, images, templates, and annotation graphics. (more)

preferences

Common preferences are set by a system administrator to ensure that all users have the same preferences. (more)

Templates are applied to a single Multiport panel and are designed for the image analyst workflow. (more)

triangulation

Triangulation is the process of orienting and registering images to the ground to create a rigorous sensor model. (more)

true orthophoto

A true orthophoto is an orthophoto with geometric corrections applied to position the buildings and other features in their exact geographic locations. (more)

Virtual Mosaic

Trademark name for a BAE Systems geospatial layout tool for raw imagery. The SOCET GXP Virtual Mosaic displays multiple component images in the SOCET GXP Multiport, mimicking the process of placing raw photographs together on a table. (more)

Visual Coverage Tool (VCT)

The Visual Coverage Tool (VCT) offers functionality to graphically manage and view image data. It is used to plot image footprints over map backgrounds to visualize data coverage. VCT will be replaced by GXP Xplorer.
