feathering

When multiple images are mosaicked together, differences in the images can cause visible seams in the mosaic. Feathering is a technique used to minimize seams by smoothing or blurring the edges of overlapping images, creating a gradual variation of image brightness near the seams. The analyst determines the distance in pixels and applies the change to control how far to spread the gray value.
