Virtual Mosaic

Trademark name for a BAE Systems geospatial layout tool for raw imagery. The SOCET GXP Virtual Mosaic displays multiple component images in the SOCET GXP Multiport, mimicking the process of placing raw photographs together on a table. Images are typically offset from each other — creating a mosaic of images. The first image selected acts as the master image. The system warps all other images to match the geocoordinate space of the master image, using a mesh of grid points across each image.

The large area coverage mosaic is not corrected for relief displacements, which is done with the SOCET GXP Ortho On-the-Fly tool. The Virtual Mosaic is used for immediate product generation or further analysis, and is used extensively as a visual conduit into advanced capabilities within the software.

A Virtual Mosaic is a stack of images geospatially aligned using a grid of points across an image.
