The focus of the v4.0 release is feature collection in the form of traditional GIS and engineering mapping, as well as 3-D urban modeling with 3-D visualization.

Based on customer feedback, BAE Systems has revised the SOCET GXP training program to offer individual learning tracks that simulate customer workflows. The new curriculum adds SOCET GXP v4.0 Essentials, a prerequisite to all other courses. The two-day Essentials course covers basic functionality and introduces new tools. Other new tracks include multiple modules, each focused on a different type of functionality. This modular approach introduces SOCET GXP basics with the option to select additional modules as needed. An overview of the new training program is featured below.

The new SOCET GXP v4.0 ToolBox encompasses a wide range of tools to extract simple or complex features, add annotations, and edit graphics and terrain. Draw arcs, parallel lines, or 3-D buildings with gabled roofs, and collect multiple features simultaneously — all from a single dockable window. The ToolBox can be moved or docked along the left- or right-side of the Multiport; tabbed with other dockable windows, or closed to maximize the workspace. Each tool is accompanied with a cue card providing a visual reference and detailed instruction for use of the tool.

The License Manager is a third-party software application that must be installed prior to running SOCET GXP v4.0. The License Manager application manages licenses for one or multiple SOCET GXP workstations over a network. It can be installed on a Microsoft Windows or Oracle Solaris operating system.

When configuring the License Manager for SOCET GXP, a common concern from customers is that SOCET GXP will not launch, or “it was working before, but not now.” This generally occurs when SOCET GXP is not configured to launch correctly. To ensure that SOCET GXP launches correctly, verify that SOCET GXP v4.0.0.201205 or later is installed, and follow these steps:
