SOCET SET® v5.5

Enhancements patched into SOCET SET® v5.5 include new strategies and algorithms in the Next-Generation Automatic Terrain Extraction (NGATE) module for image-matching from radar imagery.

An additional NGATE enhancement results in low-contrast electro-optical imagery such as deserts and glaciers. In some instances, customers have reported an increase in successful NGATE results of more than twice those achieved prior to implementing the enhancements.

In addition, SOCET SET now provides an import for the LIDAR data standard file format, LAS, versions 1.1 and 1.2. Previously, SOCET SET only imported LAS version 1.0.

The Norwegian Polar Institute studies climate change in the polar regions. In the two images shown, scientists used NGATE to create digital terrain models from high-resolution 16-bit UltraCamX data of Svalbard, Norway. The image on the left shows an NGATE digital terrain model correlated using former NGATE methodologies. The image on the right shows the results achieved after enhancements were implemented. The NGATE improvements pick up additional details in areas of low contrast to provide more accurate results. NGATE offers an efficient way to process image data of large polar ice regions with little contrast.
